01.07.2021

Bangkok, Thailand, 6 July 2021 –Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna Nan (RMUTL) (an exclusive partner for the cultivation of cannabis with Bespoke Life Science Limited (“Bespoke”), a company under Boutique Corporation Public Company Limited (“BC”) received FDA license, issued on 30 June 2021. The FDA licenses are for the import of 41 seed strains of cannabis of up to 398 seeds and for the cultivation of cannabis for research and development (R&D) in order to select the best strains to eventually become ‘mother plants’ through the cultivation of said seeds into cannabis plants. The project’s aim is to undertake R&D, where one of the beneficiaries of the R&D are Thai traditional medicine practitioners. This is aligned with BC’s aim to launch its own Thai traditional wellness centers focusing on cannabis products in the first half of 2022.

Bespoke and RMUTL first formed a partnership on 28 October 2020, signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to promote the R&D and cultivation of hemp and cannabis. The license applications to import and to cultivate cannabis for R&D purposes were submitted to the FDA on 9 April 2021. On 14 May 2021, a full inspection of the state-of-the-art indoor cultivation facility in Nan was conducted as part of the FDA approval process.

Mr. Prab Thakral, President and Group CEO of Boutique Corporation Public Company Limited said: “I am thrilled to receive FDA license approval with our exclusive partner RMUTL. This marks a major step towards our goal of developing the next generation of wellness centers and bringing Thai traditional cannabis wellness products and experiences to the market as well as across Boutique’s hospitality and property projects. Our partnership with RMUTL remains integral to this journey as we embark on the next phase of R&D which will ensure that we select the finest cannabis strains for our wellness products, as well as our continued commitment to education in the medical uses of hemp and cannabis.”

Mr. Thakral added: “We intend to expand our cultivation capacity in 2022 to ensure we can meet the demand for cannabis related health products and to further our R&D and support of the practitioners of Thai traditional medicine.”

Dr. Suraphon Chaiwongsa, Vice President for Research and Academic Services, RMUTL said: “We are proud to receive official FDA license approval and look forward to the next stage of research and development with the Bespoke team. RMUTL will oversee the R&D process of the 41 imported cannabis strains and this will provide valuable genetic resources for cannabis breeding program in Thailand to meet with the public demand along with enhancing learning experience for our students as we continue to expand this field of study”.
